Canon PowerShot TX1

Review

The good: 10x optical zoom; optical image stabilization; 1,280×720, 30 frames per second HD video capture; very close-focusing SuperMacro mode.

The bad: Extremely awkward design; so-so still image quality; sluggish performance; noisy at higher ISOs.

The bottom line: The TX1’s unique design is sure to turn heads, but it’s also quite awkward to use, and its still image quality isn’t up to Canon’s usual standards.

Canon PowerShot SX 100 IS

Review

The good: First-rate photo quality; full set of manual exposure controls; optical image stabilization; electronic lens cover.

The bad: Too easy to accidentally click instead of scroll when navigating; no optical zoom in movie capture.

The bottom line: Though the Canon PowerShot SX100 produces excellent photos, other aspects of the camera–some performance issues and operational annoyances, to name two–dim its luster.

The good: Great picture quality; manual exposure controls; flip-out screen.

Canon PowerShot S5 IS

Review

The good: Tons of manual and automatic features; well-laid-out controls; solid body; nice LCD display.

The bad: Lens aberrations and vignetting; some processing artifacts; lacks raw file support; redesigned lens cap still pops off too easily.

The bottom line: Though it remains a good megazoom, thanks to continued image and lens artifacts, the Canon PowerShot S5 IS is slowly losing ground to competitors.
